10.1 CORE Generator - ?ERROR:sim - NgdBuild:15 - Missing "-p" option and no target architecture available!"

After a CORE Generator project created in ISE 9.2i or earlier is opened in CORE Generator 10.1, generating an IP core results in the following error:

"ERROR:sim - NgdBuild:15 - Missing "-p" option and no target architecture

available! A target architecture/device must be specified either on the NGCBUILD

command line or in the source netlist."

This error occurs when you attempt to generate an IP core with a project that contains an invalid speed grade.

Customers using Virtex-5 FXT devices might run into this issue when they first move from ISE 9.2i to ISE 10.1. The ISE 9.2i default speed grade for Virtex-5 FXT devices (-3) is no longer available in ISE 10.1, rendering the speed grade invalid.

To work around this issue, do one of the following:

- Create a new CORE Generator project with a proper speed grade in ISE 10.1.

- Click Project -> Project Options and specifically select one of the existing valid speed grades, then click OK.

Once a valid project speed grade has been selected, you can create new cores or regenerate existing cores using "current project settings."

This problem has been fixed in the latest 10.1 Service Pack available at:

The first service pack containing the fix is 10.1 Service Pack 1.
