9.2 iMPACT - iMPACT GUI displays a failure for Indirect SPI programming, but the PROM seems to be loaded correctly

Description

When I carry out indirect SPI programming it seems to fail, but my Flash is loaded correctly. The error depends on the mode pin settings.

Master Serial - iMPACT reports Failed and FPGA, but when I change the mode pins to SPI mode FPGA boots correctly.

SPI mode - iMPACT reports Successful and FPGA boots.

JTAG - iMPACT reports Failed and FPGA, but when I change the mode pins to SPI mode FPGA boots correctly.

Solution

This problem occurs because after indirect SPI programming, iMPACT prompts the FPGA to configure from the SPI PROM. If the mode pins are not set to SPI it fails. iMPACT then checks the FPGA DONE signal and will report a failure if it is low. A more detailed error message will be added in 10.1 Service Pack 1.
