10.1 ISE - Starting ISE on Linux gives: "QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty"

Description

When starting ISE from a Linux command shell, I receive the following messages at the command prompt. ISE opens and seems to operate correctly.

[prompt] ise

QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty

QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty

QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty

QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty

Solution

Project Navigator uses Qt, which saves registry type settings in the $HOME/.qt/xilinxrc file.

If this file does not have write permission for the user, these "Qsettings" messages appear.

A project can be opened and edited without errors. However, any preference changes or history settings (e.g., Last project opened) will not be saved when Project Navigator is closed.

To preserve settings from one invocation of Project Navigator to another, the ".qt" directory needs to have READ/WRITE permissions.
