Keyword: 9.2, 9.1, third party, Boundary Scan, JTAG chain
When I use a third-party BSDL file, the following error occurs:
"ERROR:iMPACT:2855 - Add Device failed".
When I add the "s19252_chip.bsd" from AMCC as a non-Xilinx device to my JTAG chain iMPACT, the following error occurs:
"ERROR:iMPACT:2855 - Add Device failed"
The BSDL file is valid and the syntax is correct; what is the problem?
This problem is related to the entity name of the device in the BSDL file when the first letter of the entity name starts with "s" or "v". iMPACT handles the third-party BSDL file as a Spartan file if the first letter of the entity is "s" and the error occurs. iMPACT handles the third-party BSDL file as a Virtex file if the first letter of the entity is "v" and the error occurs.
Replacing the entity name in the BSDL file fixes the problem. Also, iMPACT can create a BSDL file by entering the instruction register length of the third-party part as follows:
Add Non-Xilinx Device => Answer No (you do not have the BSDL file) => Enter the Device Name and the IR Length to create the dummy BSDL file
