When I create a new source or project, Project Navigator crashes and the following error occurs:
What is the cause of this error?
This error occurs on both Windows XP and Vista platforms, and is caused by a Qt bug (Qt is used by the ISE software).
It can appear on any usage of QWizard (for example, New Project Wizard, New Source Wizard).
A patch for this problem is available at:
The patch is applicable to ISE 11.1 and 11.2 software on Windows 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.
This is resolved in the ISE 11.3 software release.
Work-arounds where the software patch cannot be installed:
NOTE: The following work-arounds should only be used in cases where the above mentioned patch cannot be installed.
For users on Windows Vista platforms, change the "Run As" setting of "ise.exe".
Alternately, you can avoid using either Wizard.
Create new source files using standalone tools or an applicable source editor, and change the ISE preference to NOT use the New Project Wizard by default.
To change the preference, select Edit -> Preferences; then, under ISE General, deselect "Use New Project wizard".
On Windows XP platforms, the exact cause has yet to be isolated, but appears to be linked to system permissions.
There also appears to be a link to biometric scanners.
Even though a user might have administrator privileges, some users have found it necessary to run the application as administrator.
In some cases, running as a user with administrative privileges works, while running on the same machine as the system administrator did not.
Additionally, some users have found that if they disable their fingerprint scanner or log-in without using the scanner, they no longer see the error.
Although the error has been reported on various models of laptops and portable computers, multiple use cases have been linked to Hewlett Packard computers with Authentication Service, Credential Manager fingerprint identification software.
The known work-around for ISE 11.1 or 11.2 is to disable the Fingerprint Authentication technology in Control Panel -> HP ProtectTools Security Manager -> Credential Manager, or remove it using Add or Remove Programs.
This issue is resolved in the ISE 11.3 software release.
