When I use the Symbol Wizard, the resultant auto-generated symbol has the following errors at design rule checking (DRC):
"Start DRC ...
ERROR:DesignEntry:264 - test.sym Pin 'PinName1' is in an illegal position. All pins must be on the outer rectangular bounds of symbol graphics.
ERROR:DesignEntry:264 - test.sym Pin 'PinName2' is in an illegal position. All pins must be on the outer rectangular bounds of symbol graphics."
A symbol consists of graphics, pin location points, and attributes. The rectangular bounds referred to in the error message is the minimum size rectangle that can be drawn around the symbol graphics that encompass the entire set of symbol graphics. Symbol pins must reside on this rectangle in order to connect to schematic nets.
It has been observed on at least one Linux RedHat 5 system where an outdated video driver affected the actual location where pins were placed and resulted in this error being issued on an automatically generated symbol. The issue was resolved after upgrading the video display driver.
