Chipscope Inserter - Error during core generation - Save failed due to mkdir failure Error found during generation.

Description

When trying to generate an output file from Chipscope Inserter, I get the following error message:

ERROR:sim - Error: XST failed for icon_pro. ERROR:HDLCompiler:1091 -
"Unknown"
Line 0: Save failed due to mkdir failureError found during
generation.
ERROR:sim - Failed to generate 'icon_pro'.
ERROR:sim:554 - Error found during execution of IP icon_pro (ICON
(ChipScope Pro
- Integrated Controller) version 1.04.a)

Solution

First, you should try and get more specific details as to what the failure is caused by. This can be found in the _ngo\cs_icon_pro\cs_icon_pro\coregen.log file. If you see the following error message in the log file:

ERROR:sim - Error: XST failed for icon_pro. ERROR:HDLCompiler:1091 - "Unknown"
Line 0: Save failed due to mkdir failureError found during generation.
ERROR:sim - Failed to generate 'icon_pro'.
ERROR:sim:554 - Error found during execution of IP icon_pro (ICON (ChipScope Pro
- Integrated Controller) version 1.04.a)

The error message basically is saying that it doesn't have write access to the directory because it can't execute the mkdir command. In order to fix this issue, you will need to right click on your project file and click on properties. Uncheck the read-only checkbox and apply the setting to all contained folders. If you still have a problem after changing the write access for the project directory, try rebuilding your project in a different location where you have full write access and the error will go away.
