4.2i Foundation Simulation - How do I create an "LED (7 seg) drawing" on the schematic that lights during simulation?

Keywords: Foundation, schematic, simulation, LED, 7 segment

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
I am performing a simulation for a design that drives a 7-segment LED (or any LED); how can the LED be graphically represented?

To graphically present the states of the LEDs, lines can be drawn in the schematic editor and net names linked to the lines. When probes are then placed on the net names, the probes will display the associated state of each LED bit.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Using the line tool in the schematic editor, draw the shape of the LEDs (e.g., a block figure 8).

2. Place net names on each of the lines. Use the same net names as those that drive the real LEDs. Use the "Add net or bus name" button (the fourth button from the bottom on the left side) to place the names.

3. Place probes on the net names of the lines (and the real driver nets if desired) and simulate. When you step through the simulation, you will be able to see as the probes change states.

NOTE: The entire line of each LED bit will not light -- only the probe will. This gives a basic simulated display of the actual LEDs.

The "Flash" and "Watch" sample designs contain examples of this process.
