LogiCORE IP JESD204 v1.1 - Is it possible to use the IP core for different line rates and different reference clocks?

For theLogiCORE IPJESD204, in theGUI it only allows 1, 2.5, 3.125, and 6.25 GBit/s and reference clocks 1/10 or 1/20 of the line rate.

Is it possible to use the IP for different line rates and reference clocks?

The LogiCORE IP JESD204 v1.1 core should work at any line rate from 1G to 3.125 (6.25G in B).In the LogiCORE IP JESD204 v1.1User Guide (UG774), Table 6-1 states the following:

"Other reference clock options may be available but the GTX transceiver parameter settings require to be generated using the transceiver wizard."

However, manual generation of the GTX wrapper using the GTX Wizard is required for speeds not included on the JESD204 GUI. A coarse methodology would be as follows:

  • Run the GT Wizard for the specific line rate and refclk.
  • Generate the CORE Generator IP at the next line rate above the required (for 1.2Gbit/s it would be 2.5Gbit/s).
  • For each tab in the Wizard (there are less than 10) provide the settings (e.g., 8b10b, termination to VTT, comma detection on etc.).
  • Substitute the module in the core with the modules from the GT Wizard.
  • Work with aXilinx I/O Specialist for issuesregarding transceiver settings.
