Soft Error Mitigation Controller - Essential Bits file does not include bits associated to the SRUSEDMUX and CRUSEDMUX in slice when not specifically programmed by MAP

Description

Version Found: Any core version implemented in ISE software prior to 13.4.
Version Resolved and other Known Issues: See (Xilinx Answer 44541).

Error classification is an option that allows the core to determine if an an upset event is related to a bit considered essential to the design. For more information on this option, see section titled "Controller Options: Enable Error Classification" in UG764. When this option is used, BITGEN generates essential bits data files (.ebc and .ebd extensions).

These files are used by the controller as part of the classification process to determine what bits are essential to the circuitry of the design. Prior to ISE 13.4 software, there was an issue where bits associated with the SRUSEDMUX and CRUSEDMUX in the slice were not getting classified as essential if left to their default state and not specifically programmed by MAP. This issue was present when using error classification with the 7 Series, Virtex-6 and Spartan-6 FPGAs. This problemdoes not affect the correction by replace process.

Solution

This issue is fixed in ISE 13.4 software.

When using software prior to ISE 13.4,the bits associated with the SRUSEDMUX and CRUSEDMUX are not classified as essential. However, the FIT rate impact is minimal (< 1% on an average design) and there is no recommendation to update an existing design to 13.4 due to this issue.
