Install – How do you add shortcuts to the Start Menu?

Description

During the installation process I deselected "Create Start Menu and Desktop Icons".

The installation has now completed.

Is it possible to now add these shortcuts to the Start menu?

Solution

For Vivado 2014.1 and later, to add shortcuts to the Start menu, run the networkShortcutSetup.exe executable.

This file is found under the .xinstall\Vivado_<version>\bin directory.

(For example C:\Xilinx\.xinstall\Vivado_2018.3\bin\NetworkShortcutSetup.exe.

For further details on this and more useful information, please see (UG973) (v 2018.3).

For Vivado 2013.4 and earlier, run the shortcutSetup.bat batch file, which can be found under the Vivado\<version>\bin directory.

(For example C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2013.2\bin\shortcutSetup.bat).

For further details, please see (UG973) (v 2013.4).

On a Windows machine, if the install was done by or as an administrator and then the user logs on with just the user account, the shortcuts might not be available from the desktop or Start Menu if the "Current User" option was selected instead of "All Users" in the install.

To fix this, you can do the following:

Option 1:

  • Re-run the shortcut setup executable or script as outlined above and choose "All Users"

Option 2:

  • Copy the Xilinx Design Tools folder

    From:

    C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    To:

    C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Note: Network install is only available for the Windows Operating Systems, and is currently not supported on Linux.
