Vivado - How do I create a custom Tcl command and corresponding GUI button in the Vivado IDE?


There is a specific Tcl command that I use quite often. Is there a way to create a button in the Vivado IDE that will automatically execute this command?


This feature is available in the Vivado design tools.

  1. In the Vivado tool, open the 'Custom Command' window by selecting Tools -> Custom Commands -> Customize Commands.
  2. Enter the Tcl/Xdc command into the 'Run Command' field.
  3. (Optional) Select a file path to be used as the Icon. The default icon is shown below.
  4. (Optional) Create a shortcut to the command which can be called in the Tcl console.
  5. Notice the TCL button that now appears in the Vivado toolbar:
