Vivado Design Suite 2013.3 - Adding whole directory into a simulation set with *.xci,*.xml ... files may cause ERROR: [IP_Flow 19-1038]

I am Creating a simulation set and adding a directory which contains IP source files.

For example: hdl, sim, and instantiation templates,*.xci,*.xml, ...etc.

However I am receiving the below error message:

ERROR: [IP_Flow 19-1038] The given fileset 'sim_<>' isn't a valid fileset to register the IP source to.
ERROR: [Common 17-39] 'add_files' failed due to earlier errors.

The problem was reported for Vivado 2013.3 but has been fixed in the 2013.4 release.

This situation arises when creating a new simulation following the steps below:

  1. "edit simulation sets" from the Hierarchy tab
  2. "create" a new simulation set
  3. "Add directories" and search for a folder containing some IP

After clicking "Finish", the tool will add all the files but not the *.xci and displays the error message.

To work around this, use the "Add files" option instead of adding the full directory so that only the files for simulation are picked up.
