General Description: CORE Generator Project Choose Browser Takes several minutes to browse to /home and other mount points on Solaris 2.6
This problem has been seen in Solaris 2.6 systems with multiple automounts and has been observed specifically with the Bristol Windows type browser used in the CORE Generator GUI.
When the operating system process monitor is checked, very high CPU usage, load and packet transmission rates are observed.
Solution
The problem is with mount points mounted in "browse" mode on Solaris 2.6.
In Solaris 2.6, an enhancement was added that made it possible to view the entire contents of the automated filesystem without requiring that the filesystem to already be mounted. This default, enhanced mount mode is called "browse" mode.
Browse mode can be disabled by mounting the mount points in your system with a "-nobrowse" option. This setting can be added to the Solaris 2.6 auto_master file for your host machine. The change may have to be made by your system administrator.
For more details on how to change the mount settings, please refer to the Solaris 2.6 Release Notes, p.15, under "autofs Administration News".
