Vivado 2014.2 - [Board 49-4] Problem parsing board_part file

When creating a new project for a Xilinx evaluation kit, I receive an error similar to the following:

[Board 49-4] Problem parsing board_part file - /opt/Xilinx/Vivado/2014.2/data/boards/board_parts/zynq/zc706/1.0/board_part.xml,
The board part 'xc7z045ffg900-2' is either not supported or invalid.

What can cause this error?

One possible reason for this error is if you are running the tools on a network.

It is possible the network is not creating the file fast enough when the tool needs to use this file

A workaround (which also applies if you are running the tools locally), is to use the following steps:

1) In the TCL console, type the following:
launch_runs synth_1 scripts_only

This can be adapted for any run that you may be doing.

2) The following message (or similar) should appear:

INFO: [Runs 36-48] Run(s) initialized and can be manually started with the following script: path/to/project/project.runs/.jobs/job1.sh

3) Type the path given in the message into the TCL console directly:

4) You should get an Unknown Tcl command warning, however you should also notice a dialog box indicating it is running.

You can background this dialog box and look at the log tab to check that it is actively running in the GUI.

This "Board 49-4" message is also seen whenusing UNC paths on Windows machines. UNC paths are not supported inVivado.

When using Vivado tools, the UNC (network) path should be mapped to adrive letter in order to correctly run Vivado tool.

1) Under the start menu for the network installation, right click onVivado 2014.1, click Properties.

2) Under Target replace:

\\YYY\YYY_Xilinx\Vivado\2014.1\bin\unwrapped\win64.o\vvgl.exe \\YYY\YYY_Xilinx\Vivado\2014.1\bin\vivado.bat

Where the P: drive is mapped to the \\YYY\YYY_Xilinx location.
