2014.1 Vivado IP Flows - Saving a read-only Vivado Project to read/write mode using "Project Save As...", but it still shows the IP under the block diagram as locked.

Description

When I open a read-only Vivado Project such as the Zynq MicroBlaze example design, Vivado prompts me to save the project to make it editable.

After doing that,  in the Sources window I can see that the IP under the block design are still marked as locked with the red lock icon.

I expected that making the project writable would allow me to do any operation without the lock icon on the IP cores.

Is there something else that I need to do?

Do I need to re-generate the Block Diagram targets in order to remove the locks?

Solution

The lock icons on IP should be removed when the project is made editable.

However, they are incorrectly retained.

To remove the incorrectly shown locks, close and reopen the project.

In Vivado 2014.2, the "Project save as" option closes and reopens the project to avoid this issue.

This issue is fixed in Vivado 2014.3.
