2014.3/4 Vivado Sysgen - Tactical Patch for SysGen crashing due to webtalk issue when Vivado Simulator is called

In Vivado 2014.3 and 2014.4, it is possible a crash may occur in certain scenarios when Webtalk is launched after running a simulation in Sysgen.

Is this a known issue and is there any way to avoid this crash?

This is a known issue affecting both the 2014.3 and 2014.4 versions of Sysgen.

It occurs on both Windows and Linux OS.

A patch exists for Windows 2014.3 and is attached to this answer record.

Windows 2014.3

Instructions are included in the patch_readme directory within the patch archive as well as below:

  1. Change directory to the Vivado install area, for example C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2014.3
  2. Unzip the file directly to this location.
To verify on a 64-bit OS, check the time stamp of the file lib\win64.o\librdicommonwebtalksupport.dll" to make sure it has updated.
  • For windows 64-bit version, rename lib\win64.o\librdicommonwebtalksupport.dll" to lib\win64.o\librdicommonwebtalksupport.dll.1
  • For windows 32-bit version, rename lib\win32.o\librdicommonwebtalksupport.dll" to lib\win32.o\librdicommonwebtalksupport.dll.1

Windows 2014.4

This library patch is compatible with Vivado 2014.3 only and is not required for Vivado 2014.4, however it is necessary to perform the rename step above in Vivado 2014.4 as well.

This issue can also occur on a Linux OS.

To work around this issue on Linux, you need to rename the same file as for windows.

However, it will be in a .so file format as opposed to a .dll.

  • For Linux 64-bit version, rename lib\lin64.o\" to lib\lin64.o\
  • For Linux 64-bit version, rename lib\lin32.o\" to lib\lin32.o\
