2014.4.1 Install - What does the 2014.4.1 Vivado update install xsetup look at to determine what 2014.4 installs are available?

I am trying to install the Vivado 2014.4.1 update.

However, xsetup fails with an error stating the following:

There is no valid Xilinx installation that this Update can be applied to.

There are two locations that are checked to determine if a valid Vivado installation is available for the 2014.4 update.
  1. Install registry entry.
  2. On Window operating Systems, the update install looks in the system registry for a key named : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Xilinx_Vivado System Edition_2014.4#0

Note: If multiple Vivado 2014.4 have occurred on the machine, the "#0" at the end of the key will correspond to the number of the install minus one (#0, #1, 2 ,#3, etc...).

The update will only be available if these 3 keys match:

    • DisplayVersion - 2014.4
    • BuildVersion - 2014.4_1119_1
    • RefKey - VivadoDesignEdition_PCKG and VivadoSystemEdition_PCKG (2014.4.1 is not valid for webpack edition)
The XInstallPath will show the directory where the software was installed.

On Linux machines, the update install looks for the following file:

In order for an entry in installedSW.xml to match the 2014.4.1 update, it must match the following criteria:
    • Version: 2014.4
    • Edition is System or Design.
    • Image Build: 2014.4_1119_1
  3. <install>\.xinstall\Vivado_2014.4\data\instRecord.dat

In order for the Install to be determined to be valid, the Update installer looks for the presence of this file.

The <install>\.xinstall\Vivado_2014.4 directory will be pointed to from the installedSW.xml file on Linux or from the value of the XInstallPath string in the Windows registry key.
