AR# 64640: 2015.1 Vivado - When I start Vivado from a shell, I see: WARNING: [Common 17-204] Your XILINX environment variable is undefined
2015.1 Vivado - When I start Vivado from a shell, I see: WARNING: [Common 17-204] Your XILINX environment variable is undefined
When I start Vivado from a shell, I see the following message:
WARNING: [Common 17-204] Your XILINX environment variable is undefined. You will not be able to run Synthesis and Implementation using ISE based strategies, or import ngc netlists. Please set up your XILINX environment to get full functionality.:
Why do I get this message?
Is there something wrong with my Vivado Installation?
This message will be issued when Vivado starts if the ids_lite directory is not found.
The ids_lite directory contains a subset of ISE design suite executables and data required to allow for migration of 7-series designs to Vivado.
If only UltraScale devices were installed, the ids_lite directory will not be installed, which is correct behavior.
However, the startup script should correctly detect this situation and not issue the warning in this case.
The warning should be ignored in the following cases:
If you are only designing for UltraScale devices
If your 7 series projects uses standard Vivado synthesis and implementation strategies and does not contain .ngc files from ISE (for example, IP core files from ISE CORE Generator)
If you are using 7 series devices, make sure that the required device families were installed.
Additional devices can be installed by doing the following:
running the xsetup executable under the Xilinx\.xinstall\Vivado_2015.1 directory. (For example: C:\Xilinx\.xinstall\Vivado_2015.1\xsetup.exe) or
