2016.2 Vivado - Code Editor does not change font of Text with syntax errors based on Tool preferences

When I create an error in a HDL file, I would like the font to be bolded or italicized, or to change color. I use the following procedure, however it does not seem to have an effect on errors.

  1. Open Tools > Options > Text Editor > Fonts > Errors
  2. Select Bold or Italic and apply

Changing the font or color of comments or standard text works as expected using this method.

In Vivado 2016.1/2, the font options for Error and warning have no effect on the text displayed in the Vivado code editor. In Vivado 2016.3 these font options have been grayed out as they are not supported by the underlying software the code editor was built upon.

Text of HDL source code with syntax error(s) should be underlined in red if the HDL is part of the design hierarchy.
