2017.x Vivado - Font Scaling on Windows platforms in Vivado 2017.1

I have a high resolution monitor and have applied font scaling. However, Vivado does not appear to be adhering to the scaling applied to the operating system. The font in Vivado IDE is too small to read.

Is there a way to increase the font size in the Vivado GUI?

There are two kinds of scaling supported by Windows 7 / 8 operating systems (OS).

  1. Fuzzy scaling: Scales all elements proportionally
  2. XP style scaling: Scales only the font and some GUI components (like checkbox, radio button, etc.)

Depending on the OS theme you choose, both or only XP style scaling is available.

  • Aero Themes: Support both scaling modes
    • By default fuzzy scaling is selected
    • You can turn on XP style scaling
  • Basic and High Contrast Themes: Only support XP style scaling

Vivado 2016.4 supports Windows 7/8, XP style font scaling.

However, for Vivado 2017.1, XP style scaling is not supported and no scaling will occur unless you select Aero theme and fuzzy scaling for the operating system.

Starting from Window 8.1, DPI scaling works differently and this should not be an issue (the fuzzy scaling would be working).

Fuzzy scaling is available in Vivado 2017.1 and later versions.

There is a change planned for a later Vivado release which will enable true (not fuzzy) support for scaling and enable Vivado to recognize OS font scaling.
