LogiCORE MIPI D-PHY and MIPI CSI-2 RX Subsystem - How much margin is in the MIPI D-PHY RX line rate settings?

Description

How much margin is there in the D-PHY RX (or MIPI CSI-2 RX Subsystem) line rate settings?

For example:

  1. When setting the MIPI D-PHY RX line rate to 1300Mbps it has been discovered that the MIPI D-PHY RX IP can receive different line rates from a MIPI D-PHY TX (i.e 1299 Mbps or 1311 Mbps).
  2. When setting the MIPI D-PHY RX line rate to 540Mbps it has been discovered that the MIPI D-PHY RX IP can receive different line rates from a MIPI D-PHY TX (i.e 528 Mbps or 560 Mbps).

Solution

Xilinx cannot give an exact margin number and highly recommends that users set the correct line-rate in the MIPI D-PHY RX GUI when configuring the IP.

Based on the MIPI D-PHY RX IP, the user should be able to see the following results when the line rate is set at the below rates:

  • 1500 Mbps : The IP should be able to receive 600-1500Mbps data rate from TX.
  • 599 Mbps : The IP should be able to receive 300-599Mbps data rate from TX.
  • 299 Mbps : The IP should be able to receive 150-299Mbps data rate from TX.
  • 149 Mbps : The IP should be able to receive 80-149Mbps data rate from TX.

Please keep in mind that these are only estimates and have not been tested or verified.

The recommended solution is to select the correct line-rate when generating the MIPI D-PHY RX in the IP GUI.
