XPE - Certain power rails do not change with temperature or process change, why?

Description

When estimating power consumption with XPE, changing the process or temperature does not affect the following rails:

  • VCCO_PSIO0_50*
  • VPS_MGTRAVCC
  • VPS_MGTRAVTT
  • VCC_PSPLL
  • VCC_PSDDR_PLL
  • VCC_PSADC
  • VCCO_PSDDR_504
  • VCC_PSAUX

Is this expected behavior or a problem of XPE?

The behavior of the PS_MGTRAVCC/PS_MGTRAVTT power rails are shown below:

Solution

The Xilinx Power Estimator XPE does not display power changes that are less than 1 mW for process and temperature.

For the rails listed above, their power does not change based on temperature and Process by more than 1mW, so this is not shown in XPE.

Small changes in power such as this fall within the overall accuracy model of XPE.

A tooltip will be added to the cells of these rails in the 2018.1 version of XPE.
