HDMI Receiver (RX) Subsystem v2.0 - Why do I sometimes have a problem receiving HBR Audio?

Description

Why do I sometimes have a problem receiving HBR Audio?

Solution

There are two known issues with the HBR Audio implementation in the Vivado 2017.2 and Vivado 2017.3 releases.

  1. The Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) in the HDMI example application does not support HBR.
You will need to ensure that a correct EDID which does support it is applied to the HDMI RX subsystem.
You can refer to the HDMI pass-through example design, and then clone an EDID from an HBR Audio Receiver using the below steps:
    1. Connect the HDMI TX to the HBR Audio Receiver
    2. Key in the HDCP Password
    3. Clone the EDID (In UART, press e, then press 2)
    4. Connect the HBR Audio Source to the HDMI RX

  2. Users need to install the following necessary patches
    • Vivado 2017.2 - Users can download the HDMI Receiver Subsystem Patch from (Xilinx Answer 69498) and software driver patch from (Xilinx Answer 70096) to work around this issue.
    • Vivado 2017.3 - Users can download the HDMI Receiver Subsystem Patch from (Xilinx Answer 69869) and software driver patch from (Xilinx Answer 70098) to work around this issue.
    • Vivado 2017.4 - This issue is resolved in the HDMI Receiver Subsystem. All users are strongly recommended to upgrade to Vivado 2017.4 and later versions.
