LogiCORE Video PHY Controller - Why does the HDMI RX Subsystem v3.0 fail when a design has both HDMI and DisplayPort subsystems?

When trying to design a system which has both HDMI RX and DisplayPort RX subsystems with their corresponding Video PHY instances, the HDMI RX Subsystem fails to connect, but a design with an HDMI RX Subsystem only works fine.

This is a known issue with the Video PHY Controller driver in Vivado / Xilinx SDK 2017.3.

As part of software optimization to remove unused code, the driver accidently optimizes out the HDMI code if a DisplayPort Instance is in the design.

This issue will be fixed in Vivado 2018.1 and later versions.

  • Vivado 2017.3 - Users can download the Video PHY Controller Patch from (Xilinx Answer 70174) to work around this issue.
