2018.1 Install - Vivado fails to launch when invoked from Cygwin

It was possible to run Vivado 2017.3 and earlier versions using Cygwin under Windows 7 64-bit.

However, with Vivado 2017.4 and 2018.1, Vivado no longer launches correctly when invoked from Cygwin, even when correctly sourcing the settings64.sh file in the installation directory.

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the <Xilinx_install_directory>\Xilinx\SDK\2018.1 folder.
  2. Open the .settings64-SDK_Core_Tools.sh file in any editor (For example Notepad++)
  3. Remove the path containing gnuwin (i.e. <Xilinx_install_directory>\Xilinx\SDK\2018.1\gnuwin\bin) and save the file.
  4. Now launch Cygwin.
