HDMI 1.4/2.0 Receiver Subsystem 3.1 (Rev 1) - HDMI Example Design does not work with some HDMI HDR Sources when HDCP is not enabled

In the HDMI 1.4/2.0 Receiver Subsystem 3.1 (Rev 1), when the Video mode is HDR, the link is not stable, and restarts every few seconds.

What can cause the problem?

This is a known issue in HDMI 1.4/2.0 Example design.

It occurs on an Apple TV 4K with 4K HDR mode when HDCP is disabled.

The default EDID file in the example design does not support HDR.

You can work around the problem by using the steps below to clone the EDID of the Sink:

  1. Connect the HDMI Transmitter to the HDMI Sink that supports HDR.
  2. Key in the HDCP Password (optional)
  3. Clone the EDID (In UART, press e, then press 2)
  4. Connect the HDMI Source to the HDMI Receiver
