How do I improve the quality of the video when using the VCU Encoder to encode video content containing scrolling text?

Solution

When the video content contains scrolling text, it can result in decreased video quality over time.

The following are recommendations to help improve the quality.

  • 2018.2 - Users can download the latest PetaLinux Recipes and Patch files from (Xilinx Answer 71798) to improve quality.
    • Also try limiting the Maximum QP (i.e. max-qp=43) to see if this gives some improvement to the video quality.
  • 2018.3 - Users can download the latest PetaLinux Recipes and Patch files from (Xilinx Answer 71798) to improve quality.
    • Also try limiting the Maximum QP (i.e. max-qp=43) to see if this gives some improvement to the video quality.
  • 2019.1 - Patches not available for 2019.1, recommended that users move to 2019.2 or later upon its release
    • Also try limiting the Maximum QP (i.e. max-qp=43) to see if this gives some improvement to the video quality.
    • Also try enabling the FrameSkip option for the VCU Encoder (EnableSkip=TRUE) to see if this improves the results.
  • 2019.2 - These patches will be included in the 2019.2 release and later versions.
    • Also try limiting the Maximum QP (i.e. max-qp=43) to see if this gives some improvement to the video quality.
