AR# 72509: 2019.1 Documentation Navigator - SSL error when running Documentation Navigator in Ubuntu 18
2019.1 Documentation Navigator - SSL error when running Documentation Navigator in Ubuntu 18
When opening the 2019.1 version of the Xilinx Documentation Navigator(DocNav) in Ubuntu 18, two warning dialogs pop up immediately:
Failed to download xdocs.xml. An error occurred accessing the Xilinx web site for catalog information: 'Error creating SSL context()' Please check that your internet connection is working.......
Failed to download documentation.xml.xml. An error occurred accessing the Xilinx web site for catalog information: 'Error creating SSL context()' Please check that your internet connection is working.......
The catalog update button turns orange and shows "Check Catalog Status".
When I click the catalog update button, instead of opening the catalog update manager, the warning dialogs pop up again.
The problem reported is related to an incompatible version of the OpenSSL library on Ubuntu 18.
The Documentation Navigator should run with the openssl1.0 library. Ubuntu18 has the openssl1.1 library linked by default.
The work-around is to install the openssl1.0 library by running the command below in the terminal:
sudo apt install openssl1.0 libssl1.0-dev
After the openssl1.0 is installed, restart the Documentation Navigator and the problem should be resolved.
If you do not have permission to run the "sudo" command, please follow the steps below:
Download the attached DocNav.tar.gz file
Locate the Documentation Navigator application directory. The default application directory in Linux is: /tools/Xilinx
Delete the DocNav folder in the application directory
Unzip DocNav.tar.gz file to the application directory
Restart Documentation Navigator.
If you are using the 2018.3 or prior version of Documentation Navigator and see the "Check Catalog Status" orange button, please check (Xilinx Answer 72554)
If you are using the 2019.1 version of Documentation Navigator in an OS other than Ubuntu 18 and see the "Check Catalog Status" orange button, please do not apply this update. The issue will resolve itself within a few hours
