2020.1 Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC: Ultra96 V2 board hangs while booting kernel when using UART1 as serial0 console

Description

When booting Linux on an Ultra96 V2 board using the 2020.1 release kernel, it hangs during boot as shown below:

Solution

This is a known issue in the 2020.1 Linux release.

To fix this issue, you will need to apply the attached patch which reverts this commit id https://github.com/Xilinx/linux-xlnx/commit/591b80eab3297061acf135b3f472d319763445f2

Root Cause: This issue occurs because the Ultra96 V2 board uses UART1 as the serial0 console, i.e., stdout-path is set to "serial0:115200n8" in the device-tree chosen node property.

PetaLinux:

The patch should be applied to <plnx-proj-root>/project-spec/meta-user/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-xlnx_%.bbappend recipes

Note: For information on how to apply a patch to recipes in PetaLinux, please refer to (UG1144) or https://xilinx-wiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/A/pages/18842475/PetaLinux+Yocto+Tips

1) Copy the attached patch from the Attachments section to the linux-xlnx directory as shown below.

If these directory and recipes do not exist then manually create <plnx-proj-root>/project-spec/meta-user/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-xlnx

$ cp 0001-tty-xilinx_uartps-Really-fix-id-assignment.patch <plnx-proj-root>/project-spec/meta-user/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-xlnx

2) Modify the linux-xlnx_%.bbappend file with the below content using a text editor:
