FPGA Express 3.3.1: Do not use this version of Express with Foundation 2.1i

Keywords: Foundation, Express, 2.1i, 3.3.1, EDIF, XNF, netlist

Urgency: Standard

General Description:
Synopsys has created a version of FPGA Express numbered 3.3.1. This is newer than the version
3.3 found in Foundation 2.1i Service Pack 2, documented in (Xilinx Solution 6436). However, this
new version 3.3.1 of FPGA Express is not to be used by Foundation users.

The only difference in these two versions for Xilinx users is that Synopsys now writes netlists for all
XC4000, Spartan and XC9500 devices (all derivatives included) in EDIF format instead of XNF.
However, the Foundation Project Manager has not been updated for this change, so it will continue
to look for XNF netlists for projects targeting these architectures. This change in flow will be
accounted for in a future release of the Foundation software.

FPGA Express 3.3.1 should only be used by Alliance customers. Any automated flows set up by these
users must be modified to account for the netlist format change.
