LogiCORE Reed Solomon Decoder - Why does the generator prompt you for both Symbol Width as well as the Generator Polynomial?
Description
Keywords: reed, solomon, decoder, symbol, width
Urgency: standard
General Description: Why does the generator prompt you for both Symbol Width as well as the Generator Polynomial?
Solution
There are numerous possible primitive polynomials for any given symbol width. The user can enter his own polynomial as a decimal number (as described in the datasheet), or enter 0 to select the default polynomial for the given symbol width.
The default polynomials for the range of supported symbol widths are listed in Table 2 of the Reed Solomon Decoder datasheet.
