3.1i CPLD ChipViewer - ChipViewer fails to start (Insufficient environment space).
Keywords: 3.1i, ChipViewer, start Urgency: Standard General Description: On some Windows 98 systems, particularly laptops, ChipViewer may not start up properly. When ChipViewer is clicked, the software appears to be trying to start, but ChipViewer fails to come up. This is caused by insufficient DOS environment space.
1 This problem is fixed in the latest 3.1i Service Pack available at: http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates. The first service pack containing the fix is 3.1i Service Pack 4. 2 If you are unable to get the service pack, a work-around is to modify the environment for All MS-DOS Programs. To increase the default environment space for all MS-DOS programs running in Windows, edit the Shell command in the Config.sys file. To do this, follow these steps: - Click "Start," click "Run," type "sysedit" in the Open box, then click "OK." - Click the Config.sys file, and then type a new Shell command or replace any existing Shell command with the following line: SHELL=<path>\COMMAND.COM /E:4096 /P where <path> is the drive letter and path in which the command.com is found. This problem was fixed in 3.1i Service Pack 4.
