Project Navigator - How can I change the directory that ISE software uses to store temporary files?

Description

How can I change the directory that Project Navigator uses to store temporary files?

Solution

Project Navigator (PN) attempts to use the directory specified in TMPDIR environment variable. If PN cannot write to TMPDIR or if the variable does not exist, then PN uses '/usr/tmp' partition/directory. Lastly, if PN cannot write to the '/usr/tmp' location, then it uses the '/tmp' partition/directory.

If you have questions on how to set environment variables, refer to (Xilinx Answer 11630).

In ISE software 10 and later, Project Navigator creates a < project name >_xdb directory in the working directory and places temporary files in this directory.

Project Navigator (PN) attempts to use the directory specified in the TMP environment variable. If PN cannot write to TMP or if it does not exist, then the tools use the TEMP environment variable location. If PN cannot write to the TEMP location, then it uses the C:\temp directory.

NOTE: There are both system and User environments. The user environment overrides the system environment.

If you have questions on how to set environment variables, refer to (Xilinx Answer 11630).

In ISE 10 and later, Project Navigator creates a < project name >_xdb directory in the working directory and places temporary files in this directory.
