14.4 / 2012.4 Licensing - Why is my PetaLinux tool consuming two license seats instead of just one?

Description

Why is my PetaLinux tool consuming two license seats instead of just one?

Solution

Some of the PetaLinux tools must run as a privileged user.

The given tool will escalate itself from a normal unprivileged user to a privileged user (for example, root) at runtime.

When the tool performs this escalation, the license seat being held by the unprivileged user is not released, thus, the tool will consume two licenses for its runtime instead of just one.

To ensure that the tool functions properly, make sure that an extra license seat is available for each user running tools that require privilege escalation.
