Solution

The following applies to Vivado 2013.1 and later:

Vivado is installed separately from ISE and is placed in its own directory.

Example:

/EDA/Xilinx/Vivado/2014.2/

To set up the Vivado environment:
  • Windows 32-bit: Run the settings32.bat from the Vivado/<version> directory
  • Windows 32-bit: Run the settings64.bat from the Vivado/<version> directory
  • Linux 32-bit: Run the settings32.sh from the Vivado/<version> directory
  • Linux 64-bit: Run the settings64.sh from the Vivado/<version> directory
To run Vivado do one of the following:
  • After setting up the environment run "vivado" from a command shell
  • On Windows OS, run from the Start menu. For example: Select Start ->Programs -> Xilinx Design Tools -> Vivado 2014.2 -> Vivado
  • On Windows, execute the vivado.bat file. For example: C:\Xilinx\Vivado\2014.2\bin\vivado.bat.
  • On Linux, execute the vivado file. For example: \EDA\Xilinx\Vivado\2014.2\vivado


The following applies to Vivado 2012.4 and earlier:

Vivado is installed along with the ISE Design Suite and is placed in a parallel directory.

Example:

/EDA/Xilinx/14.3/ISE_DS
/EDA/Xilinx/Vivado/2012.3

The Vivado environment will be automatically set up when the ISE Design Suite environment is set up.

To set up the Vivado environment:
  • Windows 32-bit: Run the .settings32.bat from the ISE_DS directory
  • Windows 32-bit: Run the .settings64.bat from the ISE_DS directory
  • Linux 32-bit: Run the .settings32.sh from the ISE_DS directory
  • Linux 64-bit: Run the .settings64.sh from the ISE_DS directory
To run Vivado do one of the following:
  • After setting up the environment run "vivado" from a command shell
  • On Windows OS, run from the Start menu. For example: Select Start ->Programs -> Xilinx Design Tools -> Vivado 2012.3 -> Vivado
