7 Series GT Wizard, 2013.1 Vivado - Upgrade of 7 Series GT Wizard core to v2.5 fails with error: [Coretcl 2-1043] upgrade_ip failed for 'Gtwizard_v2_389539'


If a user attempts to upgrade the GT Wizard core to v2.5 (available in Vivado Design Suite 2013.1), upgrading fails with following warnings and errors:

upgrade_ip -vlnv [get_ips Gtwizard_v2_389539]
Removed parameter gtz0_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz1_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz2_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz3_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz4_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz5_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz6_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter gtz7_val_reference_clock
Removed parameter octal0_val_identical_reference_clock
invalid command name "default"
ERROR: [Coretcl 2-1043] upgrade_ip failed for 'Gtwizard_v2_389539' : invalid command name "default"
ERROR: [Common 17-69] Command failed: invalid command name "default"


This is a known issue with the Vivado 2013.1 tools.

To fix this issue, install the patch attached at the end of this answer record along with the patch available in (Xilinx Answer 55726) and re-run the upgrade feature. Installation instructions are available in the readme file that is attached.
