2015.4 PetaLinux - petalinux-build fails with default u-boot bsp configuration

Description

When the petalinux-build command is run in a new project created from a bsp, it fails at the u-boot step with errors similar to the following:

[ERROR] make[4]: *** [silentoldconfig] Error 2
[ERROR] make[3]: *** No rule to make target `include/config/auto.conf', needed by `include/config/uboot.release'. Stop.
[ALL ] make[3]: Leaving directory `/build/linux/u-boot/u-boot-plnx'
[ERROR] make[2]: *** [sub-make] Error 2
[ALL ] make[2]: Leaving directory `/build/linux/u-boot/src/u-boot-plnx'
[ERROR] make[1]: *** [/build/linux/u-boot/u-boot-plnx/u-boot] Error 2
[ALL ] make[1]: Leaving directory `/build/linux/u-boot'
[ALL ] make: *** [sub_build_component_/none/u-boot/single/u-boot-plnx] Error 2
[ALL ] make: Leaving directory `/build/linux'
ERROR: Failed to build linux

This issue has been observed on ZCU102, ZC102, and ZC106 designs.

Solution

Run the otherwise optional petalinux-config step, and explicitly re-select the default u-boot configuration prior to building it as follows:

petalinux-config --> u=boot Configuration --> U-Boot config (PetaLinux u-boot config) --> (X) PetaLinux u-boot config
